Residence permit renewal: The issuance of an “Attestation de prolongationd’Instruction” is not automatic

What is the “Attestation de prolongation d’Instruction”?

This temporary residence permit is only issued by theFrench authorities via the online platform (ANEF) when your residence permit has expired while your residence permit renewal application is under processing. 

This attestation is valid for up to 3 months andmaintains your right to reside and work in France (and to travel abroad - onlywhen it’s a renewal). 

Who can obtain thisattestation?

Foreigners residing in France holding a student,“Talent - EU blue card”, “Talent - skilled worker” or “Talent -searcher”residence permit 

What are the conditions toobtain this attestation ? 

• The renewal application has to be submitted between 2 and 4 months before the expiration date of your current residence permit 
• The renewal application file has to be complete

These conditions are cumulative : if both conditions are not met, the “Attestation de prolongation d’Instruction” will not be issued and it could impact your ability to reside and work in France after your residence permit expiry date (and also to traveling in and out).

Example: If your Talent residence permit is due to expire on 29 December 2024, you should lodge your complete renewal application by 29 October 2024 at the latest.
